How can I initiate updating Store Apps?  - what schedule do they use?

Hi everybody,

I want to update our Store Apps automatically, but not allow users to be able to install new Store Apps

We have allowed automatic download and update of store apps in computer policy. We have used AppLocker to whitelist only the apps we want our users to use, users can still access the Windows Store, but when they try and download a non-whitelisted app they will receive a 0x80073d01 banner message, which is a 'blocked by AppLocker message'. This is not very elegant, but will do for now.

I have read in the following article that event id 10001 in "Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\AppXDeployment-Server will indicate an updated app, however I cannot see if the apps updates are even attempting.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dn594497.aspx

Is there a command line or GUI method I can use to force Store Apps to try and update so I can see if they are updating correctly? Does anybody know what schedule they will attempt to update?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Michael

Hi Michael ,

To manually update the Windows Store Apps .Open the Store and then navigate to the right side choose "settings","App updates ","check for updates".
Here is a link for reference :

" Does anybody know what schedule they will attempt to update?"
What does this mean ?As far as I am concerned ,it use the same components as windows updates.
According to the document :
"You'll get updates to apps if the app developer and Microsoft agree to issue an update, even if you dont get automatic updates to Windows through Windows Update. The Windows Store will check for and download app updates automatically, even if youre signed out of the Windows Store. If you're accessing the Windows Store using Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1, you may choose to allow the Windows Store to download and install app updates automatically. "

Hi everybody - the problem I had was that I had a user proxy and Store App Updates use the machine proxy. There is a MS hotfix that fixes this. These are the settings I used to block the store but have Apps update automatically.

Machine Policy:
Turn off Automatic Download and Install of updates must be set to DISABLED.

User Policy:

Turn off Store

Install this hotfix:
